On the 24th of March in Atlantic City, Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach (26-0, 14 KOs) will face fellow giant Tye Fields (49-4, 44 KOs). In a recent interview, the 32-year-old boxer discussed the champion rulers of the heavyweight division, Wladimir Klitschko (57-3, 50 KOs) and Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KOs).
Regarding Wladimir, Wach was not impressed with his recent easy knockout win over former cruiserweight king Jean Marc Mormeck.
"In the last fight with Mormeck, Klitschko was certainly well prepared and wanted to win in the best way possible. But on the other hand, his opponent did not show anything in this fight. In the entire four rounds he threw very few punches. It appeared as if Mormeck wrote himself off in the locker room or a few days before the fight. He probably wanted to avoid getting hurt and to come of this fight unscathed. In this fight, we couldn't see the true value of Wladimir. When he faces a young fighter who has nothing to lose, then we will see his true value," Wach said.
Regarding Vitali, Wach believes the older brother is starting to show his age. Wach was impressed with the performance of Vitali's most recent opponent, British boxer Dereck Chisora.
"Dereck Chisora was not frightened. He really wanted to win and it was apparent from the first round. He was constantly attacking Klitschko and finally Vitali did not know what to do. It was evident that Chisora lost, but we need more fighters like Chisora, who are going to fight with confidence. Some people ask me which of the brothers I would rather fight. I will answer that - with the older one. His style is probably more to my liking. Yet we know that very soon, maybe in two years, Vitali will retire. In his last fight he finally showed his age. Klitschko started breathing heavily in the third round. He is certainly wise enough to know when to walk away. If I were given an option to face one of the brothers on March 24, I would choose Vitali. With him I would have more opportunities to win," Wach said.
