From December 2013 to September 2014, Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) had a whirlwind schedule with very little rest. The boxer spent the majority of his time in the gym or on tour with promotional duties.
He captured the WBA welterweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Adrien Broner in a very big upset on December 14th. He returned in May, in the biggest fight of his career, and lost a competitive twelve round majority decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Maidana was back again in September, in a rematch with Mayweather, and this time lost a twelve round unanimous decision.
At the moment Maidana wants to relax and spend time with his family.
"Right now I don't want to fight anybody. I want o rest. Later on I'm going to think about what I want to do," Maidana told Fox Deportes.
Manager Sebastian Contoursi expects Maidana to come back strong in 2015 after recharging his batteries.
"He never had more than three months of inactivity. It is time to let the warrior rest. He must given time to recover the desire. The hunger is always going to be there, it's the nature of a fighter. We will wait until the necessary time and choose a return date," he said.
