Former 140 and 147-pound champion Paulie Malignaggi says Mauricio Herrera did enough last week to pull off an upset twelve round decision win over undefeated WBC/WBA 140-pound champion Danny Garcia. That didn't happen, with Garcia being awarded a twelve round majority decision win in Bayamon.
After the fight, Garcia discussed the possibility of moving up in weight to the welterweight division. Father and trainer, Angel Garcia, disagrees with his son's potential move to a higher weight.
"I didn't think Danny won his fight with Herrera, but that that doesn't mean he isn't a good fighter as Herrera is underrated, got a win over [Ruslan] Provodnikov and has given every top fighter all they could handle," Malignaggi told Sky Sports Ringside.
"So Garcia is still a good puncher and something to deal with and I think he would fit well into the welterweight division alongside all the other talent that is there."
One fight being discussed, for the Mayweather-Maidana undercard on May 3rd, is a welterweight fight between Amir Khan and Luis Collazo - a showdown that Malignaggi feels is evenly matched.
"I think Khan-Collazo would be a good, solid fight," said Malignaggi. "Khan hasn't fought in a while and is going to have to work on that ring rust, but from what I hear he has been in the gym and doing well, while Collazo has been boxing well lately."
