In a little over a week, two division world champion Adrien Broner will jump up two weight classes when he steps in the ring against Paulie Malignaggi in Brooklyn, NY. Malignaggi's WBA welterweight title will be at stake in the Showtime televised bout.
On a recent edition of BoxingScene Radio, Malignaggi told us that Broner's team made a mistake in picking him as an opponent. The Showtime analyst said that even though he isn't known as a hard puncher the difference in size will be apparent.
"He's a little guy. They think I'm a small welterweight but they will find out on Saturday night. I don't feel like he's a big guy. I feel I have a lot of things I can do with him," Malignaggi stated.
The Brooklynite sounded very confident in our interview and said that he wouldn't be surprised if the fight didn't go the full 12 rounds. Malignaggi plans on starting off fast and said that he plans on dishing out a lot of punishment.
"He's going to get his ass kicked from the first round until however long this fight lasts. If it goes the distance then he will get his ass kicked for 12 rounds," Malignaggi proclaimed.
The two brash fighters have engaged in many verbal battles in the lead up to the fight. Many of the shots fired have been personal and have had nothing to do with boxing. We asked Malignaggi if we can expect more of the same in the final press conference and he answered by questioning the intelligence of his opponent.
"I don't rehearse my stuff. I can think on the fly. I'm more intelligent than him. He will come with a couple rehearsed things and I will shut it down. He's not intelligent. He's as dumb as a box of rocks," Malignaggi told BoxingScene Radio.
