Middleweight Matthew Macklin (28-3, 19KOs) believes Darren Barker showed him the way to beat WBC Diamond champion Sergio Martinez. Macklin sat ringside last Saturday night in Atlantic City, and scouted Martinez (48-2-2, 28 KOs) as he knocked out Barker in eleven rounds. Macklin plans to make his debut for promoter Lou DiBella in November. If everything goes well in November, Macklin is expecting the strong possibility of facing Martinez in March. DiBella also promotes Martinez.
"This [November] is an introduction fight, not that I take it like that because every fight is like a world title fight - if there is a slip up you go to the back to the queue, but Paddy’s Day will be a big fight. All going well here, then he [DiBella] does not see why that could not happen - unless Martinez can get a fight with [Floyd] Mayweather. Darren showed Martinez's weaknesses. My workrate and variety will be too much for him," Macklin said.
