Panamanian boxer Luis 'El Nica' Concepcion, who holds the interim-WBA super flyweight world title, was arrested yesterday at 11:00 pm at a police checkpoint at the entrance of Las Garzas de Pacora, after failing a breathalyzer test.
According to the police report, "El Nica" was driving a white Hyundai and allegedly fled to evade a checkpoint in Las Garzas de Pacora.
Concepcion told La Estrella de Panama that he never took flight. He says the police treated him like a criminal by handcuffing him and holding him at gunpoint as they moved him to police headquarters. The boxer said he was released at 1:00 am today and is now at home.
The last time Concepcion was in the ring, he got revenge in his third bout with Tyson Marquez last December with a twelve round unanimous decision. Marquez had previously stopped Concepcion twice.
There has been some talk of WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada moving up in weight in the early fall and Concepcion has been been named as a frontrunner to face him. Concepcion has no issues with traveling to Mexico for a big fight. He traveled to Mexico last September and stunned David Sanchez with a TKO in ten.
