A couple hours after Phil Lo Greco suffered his first pro defeat Saturday night with a wide unanimous decision loss to Shawn Porter, he said that he likely will be moving up to junior middleweight.
“I think I’m going to move up in weight class,” said Lo Greco, who fell to 25-1 with 14 knockouts. “I’ve been at 147 pounds since I was 16. I think I might need new challenges.”
Most of Lo Greco’s bouts have actually been above the welterweight limit, according to BoxRec.com, which lists bouts where he came in at 149, 150, 151 and 152. Both he and Porter came in at 150 pounds for this bout.
The 28-year-old promised to bounce back from this loss.
“I promise there’s going to be a major comeback,” he said. “This was a good learning experience on my part. I gave the fight away. I wasn’t letting punches go. I tried to push the action. Then I got desperate in the last round. I got caught [and knocked down]. I got up.
“It’s part of boxing. Everybody loses,” he said. “I’m not taking it personal. This is all business. One thing I can promise you, you will see a harder, better, faster Phil Lo Greco.”
