Highly regarded prospect Julian "El Camaron" Ramirez (12-0) returns to the ring on November 13th at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif. against Pedro Melo (9-6-2). The fight will be the 4th of the year for Rodriguez, who is managed by Oscar De La Hoya's brother Joel.
The 21-year-old Ramirez said that he has had a great training camp and that he is ready for anything that Melo does in the ring. He also said that he hopes to graduate up to 10 round fights next year.
"I sparred with different styles and I prepare for the worst (that can happen). I train hard so that I am ready for whatever my opponent does. I am happy with the fights that I am getting and the pace that I have been fighting at."
"They told me that after this fight that they might move me up to 10 rounders. Whether it is 8 rounds, 6 rounds or 10 rounds I just want to fight," said Ramirez.
It has recently came to light that many of the boxers fighting on Golden Boy cards aren't actually signed to a promotional contract and are only signed with influential adviser Al Haymon. Ramirez doesn't fall into that category as he is signed to a contract with Golden Boy. I asked him if he felt that he would receive extra attention from the promotional company because he is one of "their" fighters.
"I hope so. At the end of the day I want to fight everybody who is in my weight class. I don't want to be a champion and they say he can't fight Al Haymon's fighters or he can't fight Top Rank's fighters. Whoever has the belt, even if they have a different promoter, I just want to fight the best. Hopefully I can get the belt and fight the best competition out there but yes I am signed with Golden Boy," said Ramirez.
Ramirez said that he spoke to De La Hoya at the most recent fight card at Fantasy Springs and that the president of Golden Boy promised to keep him active.
"I talked to him at the last fights at Fantasy Springs for a little bit and he just told me to be ready because he is going to keep my busy and that is pretty much it which was exactly what I want to hear," Ramirez told BoxingScene.com.
