Undefeated WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez feels very good about the upcoming defense on April 16 against Orlando Salido in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Lopez put his weight issues to rest after making a 30-day weight of 136.4-pounds. He was allowed a max of 144.5. Earlier this year, Lopez came to the press conference to announce the Salido bout and appeared to weigh around 154-pounds.
"I'm very happy. I was hoping to make 138 pounds and made 136. It's more than good, but the Salido fight is not over yet. We take every opponent seriously. We have to work round and round for this kind of fighter, who is very smart . We are very happy and confident that we will get the job done," said Lopez, who improved to 30-0 and 27 knockouts.
Lopez added that his remaining 20 to 30 rounds of sparring will get him down to 130 and he should make the weight of 126 pounds without much effort.
"We're sparring with Jose Lopez, Jonathan Gonzalez, McWilliams Arroyo, Jonathan Oquendo and David Quijano - and they are making me work. We are coming in there to put pressure on Salido, and always coming forward, and we will counter him with faster punches," Lopez said.
