WBC silver welterweight champion Josesito Lopez (30-4, 18KOs) has been sticking to a strict regimen of nutrition to gain weight and beef up for his bout against WBC junior middleweight champon Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (40-0-1, 29KOs) on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Showtime will televise.
Lopez will be moving up in weight for the second time in two fights. He wants to be extra strong for the bout with Canelo, who is regarded as one of the strongest boxers at 154. In his June fight against Victor Ortiz, Lopez came from behind to break Ortiz's jaw for a ninth round TKO.
As the physically smaller man, Lopez is trying to retain as many pounds as possible, but his hard training sessions are taking some of that added mass away. One thing is for sure, he won't have any problems making weight.
“I've had a camp of nearly nine weeks. A segment of its first portion consisted of a high protein diet, eating six times a day, every three hours, to maintain my weight, strength and speed," Lopez said.
"It's a bit difficult to keep the weight while you're training twice a day, six days a week, but I've retained it while remaining fast, strong and healthy. I ate chicken every day, fish, roasted meat.... and of course rice and beans."
