Jorge Paez Jr.picked up his eighth straight win, making quick work of Edinson Garcia with a one-punch first round knockout Saturday evening in Rosarito, Mexico.
The bout ended almost as quickly as it began. Paez Jr. connected with a flush left hook, landing squarely on Garcia's jaw as he collapsed along the ropes and to the canvas. The visiting Colombian never came close to beating the count, producing an immediate end to the Boxeo Azteca main event.
The official time was 2:42 of round one.
Paez advances to 35-4-1 (21KO), picking up his quickest win in more than three years.
Garcia falls to 21-16 (10KO). The Colombian journeyman was a late replacement for countryman Juan Urango, who pulled out of the fight due to contractual issues earlier in the week.
In the televised opener, Francisco Leal rediscovered the win column with an eight-round decision over German Meraz. The official scorecards were not revealed on the broadcast, though Leal was dominant throughout, including a fifth round knockdown to put the fight to the point of no return.
Leal advances to 20-7-3 (13KO), already fighting for the fourth time in 2013. Meraz suffers his third straight defeat as he falls to 41-26-1 (21KO).
David Gaspar made quick work of journeyman Jorge Guerrero in the televised swing bout. A body shot put Guerrero (7-11, 5KO) down and out at 2:59 of round three. Gaspar picks up his third straight win - all by knockout - as he improves to 19-4-1 (11KO).
The most competitive bout of the telecast saw Rodolfo Quintanilla (13-2-3, 10KO) fought unbeaten Dario Garibay (7-0-1, 6KO) to a six-round draw. All three judges scored the contest 57-57, a fair verdict as both fighters had their moments but neither of whom could gain the upper hand.
