On Friday evening J'Leon Love (16-0) will look to keep his perfect record intact when he faces Vladine Biosse (15-2-2) in a ShoBox televised main event. Love was suspended for taking a banned diuretic shortly after his since overturned victory over Gabriel Rosado this past May. He returned to the ring in December and looked good in stopping Lajuan Simon.
"It feels great to keep active. I had been out for awhile and then I was back on December 6th and we did what we had to do. It felt really good (to get back in there). I love doing this and to have it taken away from me was really hard. I am just blessed to be able to be back in here doing what I love," Love explained.
Love said that he was glad that the fight went more than a few rounds so that he could shake off some of the rust after his seven month layoff.
"The game plan was to work behind our jab and throw body shots. He is a veteran and in the sixth round my short shots got him and got him out of there," said Love.
The Michigan native didn't want to speculate on when he will get his first shot at a world title but said that he will be ready when the time comes. WBO middleweight champion Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillen is also a Showtime fighter and could be a possible future opponent. Love said that he has a lot of respect for Quillen and would love a shot at his title.
"Wherever the opportunity comes I am ready. Quillin is a great champion and he is doing a great job. He is undefeated and has defended his title well. I take my hat off to him," Love stated.
Love finished our conversation by saying that he thinks Miguel Cotto has a good shot at dethroning middleweight kingpin Sergio Martinez even though he is the smaller fighter.
"I don't think (it is a mismatch) at all. I think Sergio Martinez is quite old now. You see the injuries he has suffered in his fights. I think it is catching up to him. He is getting older and Cotto is hungry and has a chance to win a title in another weight class," Love told BoxingScene.com.
