At the Lienzo Charro in Hidalgo Del Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico, former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (64-10, 54 KOs) continues to show his deadly power, with a two round blasting of previously undefeated Jessie “Jimdomar” Rosales (21-1-1, 9 KOs)
Gonzalez, who dropped Rosales twice, retains his WBC Latino super featherweight world title.
The veteran fighter, who is ranked under the WBC at #5, wants to get a crack at his countryman, current full champion Miguel Berchelt.
This was the sixth win for Gonzalez since losing an upset ten round majority decision to Jonathan Oquendo in September of 2015, as part of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Andre Berto undercard from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Five of Gonzalez's six wins have come by way of knockout.
Rosales had never faced anyone even near the level of Gonzalez.
Gonzalez now hopes a world title shot is in his future.
"I've felt a bit underrated, but I've already been talking to the WBC. I'm number five in the division, because with a win the opportunity to compete for a world title is closer," Gonzalez explained.
" [To get a shot at a world title] I am not only obligated to win, but I have to convince [the WBC] and make it clear that I am ready to return in a fight for a world title. I feel strong and I will prove it."
