The last we saw of welterweight Jesus Soto-Karass in a boxing ring was June 21st, 2014 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, where he dropped a ten round decision to Devon Alexander. This past April he participated in the 'BKB' where he defeated Ed Paredes in the pit.
Now, the fan-friendly Mexican is set to return to his more familiar setting. According to his co-manager, Sergio Diaz - "I spoke to Eric Gomez (V.P. of Golden Boy Promotions) last week and he mentioned that Jesus will possibly come back in December at the end of the year. As far as where, against who, I still don't know."
Some are clamoring for a match-up against Yoshihiro Kamegai on the Miguel Cotto-Saul Alvarez undercard on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. But Diaz says there has been no mention of that potential fight.
"They haven't mentioned that but I actually like that fight against Kamegai. I'd love to match Jesus up with him. It's an exciting fight for everyone."
It turns out the rugged Kamegai (25-3-1, 22 KO's) has a fight scheduled in Japan on October 3rd. So perhaps Soto-Karass-Kamegai can be tabled for 2016.
Gomez said to BoxingScene - "(Soto-Karass) needs a couple of wins so we're not going to put him in tough. He might be on one of our Estrella (TV) cards, just have him back and put him in a good, decent fight where he has a chance to win. I just feel the kid has had brutal fights but he still wants to fight. He's still got some fight in him and we just want to get him something decent."
