Amir Khan has an important assignment coming up on December 13th, when he collides with Devon Alexander in a collision of former champions at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Khan made his welterweight debut in May, winning a wide twelve round decision over former 147-pound champion Luis Collazo. Alexander is a former champion at 140 and 147-pounds.
Khan's countryman, former two-division champion Ricky Hatton, says Amir is picking the right opponents if he intends to secure a May fight with WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. - who knocked out Hatton in ten rounds in 2007.
"Amir's picking the right opponents if he's looking for a fight with Mayweather: Collazo's a former welterweight champion, as is Alexander. Floyd is running out of opponents, so Amir Khan has got every chance of securing him," Khan told Sky Sports News HQ.
If Khan sticks his game place and boxes Alexander, then Hatton strongly believes he'll have few troubles in winning.
"I think Amir will win. I think he's probably slight favorite but most people would probably pick it as a 50-50 fight. One thing I do love about Amir is he doesn't shy away from a challenge. His last fight he moved up to welterweight, fought Luis Collazo and put in a really mature performance - he didn't get involved and stuck to his boxing," Hatton said.
"Sometimes Amir can be his own worst enemy, sometimes he likes getting involved in a fight, but against Devon Alexander if he sticks to using the boxing ability he's got he wins every day of the week for me."
