Earlier BoxingScene.com reported that there were preliminary discussions involving a fight between WBC super featherweight titlist, Francisco Vargas and #7 ranked Jhonny Gonzalez. But Golden Boy Promotions, who handle Vargas, is vehemently denying any such talks have taken place.
Eric Gomez, the V.P. of GBP told Boxingscene.com bluntly - "It's bullsh*t. No talks have taken place and Golden Boy is in a lawsuit with Gonzalez and Promociones del Pueblo - that fight will not happen."
On November 21st as part of the Saul Alvarez-Miguel Cotto pay-per-view undercard at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Vargas won a thrilling bout against Takashi Miura, where he had to dust himself off the canvas to score a ninth round stoppage to win the title. This battle is considered one of the best of 2015.
"We're looking at a couple possible fights, the rematch (with Miura), we're looking at a couple of options for him and he'll be coming back as early as March or April,"explained Gomez.
