Commonwealth super-middleweight king George Groves has joined the chorus of voices calling for Amir Khan and Tim Bradley to meet sometime this year in order to underline the top position in the 140lb division.
Khan decisioned top contender Rene Marcos Maidana in December. Bradley annexed the WBO and WBC titles by scoring a Technical Decision win over Devon Alexander on Saturday night. Groves believes that a clash between ‘King’ Khan and ‘Desert Storm’ is a must for 2011.
‘I also now want to see how Khan would deal with Bradley,’ writes Groves in his blog on boxingnewsonline.net. ‘He is clearly a very difficult man to beat, most of us found that out when he was in the UK fighting Junior Witter. Khan has the handspeed but keeping Bradley off all night will be a serious challenge and make for interesting viewing.’
George is waiting on news of his next opponent; the 11-0 (9 early) fighter will be the chief support to John Watson’s vacant British lightweight title fight against Anthony Crolla at the Olympia, Liverpool on February 12th.
Groves’s last action saw him rise from the canvas to hammer Kenny Anderson to defeat in the sixth round of their Commonwealth title fight. The Londoner defended his belt in thrilling style that night but he will look to reassert his undoubted boxing skills come the 12th.
