According to WBA super middleweight champion George Groves, he will be ready to fight Callum Smith in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) final if the bout can be scheduled for July.
Groves (28-3, 20 KOs) and Smith (24-0, 17 KOs) are the two remaining combatants in the tournament.
"This week, I underwent a six-week post-op CT scan on the injured shoulder which I'm very pleased to confirm has healed perfectly. All united and good to proceed as planned. So a July 7 World Boxing Super Series final is possible, provided a one-month extension is granted," Groves stated.
Groves is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder that he suffered in WBSS semi-final bout with countryman Chris Eubank Jr. from back in February.
In a fight where Groves was surprisingly the better underdog, the more experienced fighter came out on top as Groves managed to beat Eubank to the punch in the majority of the rounds and outboxed him. But in the twelfth and final round, Groves' shoulder fell apart and forced the London fighter to coast until the final bell sounded to end the fight.
In the first round of the tournament, Groves blasted out and undefeated Jamie Cox in four rounds.
The finale with Smith was initially scheduled for June 2 - but Groves said he would not recover in time for that date.
Since the injury was revealed, there has been doubt on whether or not Groves will be allowed to move forward.
Groves is crossing his fingers that WBSS officials will grant the one-month extension to allow him to compete against Smith.
Smith had a much easier time in clinching a position in the final round.
In the first round, he won a twelve round decision over Erik Skoglund. And in the semi-finals he defeated very late replacement Nieky Holzken - who came in on a few days notice after Juergen Braehmer withdrew with illness less than a week before the fight.
