Junior welterweight Frankie Gomez could return to the ring sometime in February, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told BoxingScene.com recently.
The East Los Angeles, Calif. resident has not fought since winning a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision over Vernon Paris in Indio, California on July 25.
Gomez was scheduled to fight Thomas Dulorme this Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Gomez had to withdraw from the fight when trainer Freddie Roach had to travel to the Phillipines to train Manny Pacquiao and was commited to being in the corner of Lucian Bute on December 6.
Bute ended up sustaining an injury a couple of weeks and and had to withdraw from his fight against Roberto Bolonti.
Gomez (18-0, 13 KOs) is one of Golden Boy Promotions’ prized propects, but has had to deal with issues outside of the ring, which included spending time in jail during the first few months of 2012.
Gomez has been training at the Wild Card Gym in nearby Hollywood since the late 2012 and seems to have recommited himself to the sport.
No word yet on whom Gomez would face when he returns to the ring.
