Former World Boxing Council super featherweight champion, Francisco Vargas (25-1-2, 18 KOs), came along to the WBC weekly presser conference to chat about his "Wall to wall," bricks and mortar demolition of American contender Rod Salka, who has soundly and resoundingly crumbled recently in Indio, California.
Vargas wants to stake his foundation claim for a rematch with Miguel "Alacran" Berchelt (33-1, 29 KOs).
Seeing the borderline "wall" shorts of his opponent, emblazed with the 'America First', motif brought out the true Mexican "Bandit" spirit in Francisco, who hammered him from pillar to post.
"I really hadn't noticed his attire until I got in the ring. I had many Mexican friends based in the United States and therefore I know how they feel about that position and treatment of the US President. An opponent dressed like that, convinced me that I was representing our Mexico. I had to take the next step, which involved sending a clear message," Vargas said.
"It was a fight in which I felt very comfortable and in excellent physical condition, I've really seen a huge improvement with the direction of my coach Joel Diaz," Francisco commented, who also confirmed that since his surgery he`s had no further cuts.
Francisco is also stressing that the only thing on his mind, in his focus and within his aim, is a rematch with Berchelt, because despite receiving various offers from other sanctioning bodies the 'Bandit' is obsessed to reclaim what he lost.
Berchelt handed Vargas the first defeat of his career last January with an eleventh round stoppage.
"I am a green and gold champion. This is my home and my family, I do not see myself wearing other colors. It's my desire to recover what I lost, and it does not matter if I have to wait, I will be champion again," Vargas said.
