IBF bantamweight champion is picking Tyson Fury to repeat when he faces Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch next year.
On November 28th, Fury captured the IBO/IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles with a twelve round unanimous decision over Klitschko in Germany. It was one of the biggest upsets in the heavyweight division in recent memory.
Klitschko had an immediate rematch clause in the contract and quickly exercised that option.
Frampton had picked Klitschko to win the fight, as did many others, and was very impressed by Fury's plan of attack to secure the victory.
"He had his game plan, stuck to it and became the heavyweight champion of the world. It was a pretty boring fight in the end but it’s about winning and when a trainer sets out a game plan to win a fight, he’s not thinking 'well it has to entertain the crowd' - he does it to win and Tyson’s coach and uncle Peter Fury deserves so much credit because he’s done an amazing job with the big man," Frampton told The Belfast Telegraph.
Frampton is not happy with all of the critics that are slamming Fury on a day in and day out basis. He feels Klitschko is going be mentally affected before he even steps in the ring, after dealing with all of the pre-fight verbal abuse and then Fury backing up the big talk once they stepped in the ring. Frampton expects the fight to take place on UK soul, although Klitschko has the power to direct the venue and location.
"Despite his great win there were still people putting Fury down which was a disgrace. Of course, he annoys people at times but this is the moment to give him credit for an amazing achievement. There’s going to be a rematch with Klitschko around May, probably at Wembley or Old Trafford and I see Fury winning that — he’s got Klitschko’s number," Frampton said.
"It’s going to be hard for Klitschko to deal with the loss because he thought that Fury was just all mouth — he had just signed a five-year deal with a German television company to show his fights so it shows you how confident he was. But now Fury is the number one heavyweight on the planet until someone proves him wrong and that won’t be easy for anybody. It seems with Fury people either love him or hate him, well I love him and he has now lit up the heavyweight division."
