Former three division champion Erik Morales (51-6, 35KOs) agrees that he is not the same fighter that he was in the past. Morales believes that he's better than ever. Morales will be taking on the dangerous junior welterweight Marcos Maidana (27-2, 27KOs) on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Morales has been advised, even by some of those who are close to him, to avoid the dangerous Maidana. After reviewing tapes, he feels confident that Maidana's style of fighting will provide him with enough opportunities to get the victory. Morales is looking to become the first Mexican boxer to win four titles in four weight divisions. A win over Maidana will get him closer to that dream.
"I'm not the same fighter that I was before. I'm even better. As a fighter I have better technique. I know how to deal with big problems in the ring. I'm better conditioned. The best athletes, you can see that they are over 30-years-old. I've watched Maidana fight. He's a good fighter, but I can beat him. I came back to boxing to fight the best out there. Maidana is one of the best," Morales said.
