Edgar Sosa is looking for an early knockout win against Uruguay’s Julio “El Matador” Paz when they lock horns in the Plaza de Toros in San Luis Potosi on July 2nd.
Paz, which translates as peace, (12-1-0, 4 KO’s) is the WBC’s Champion of Latin America. He’s the last obstacle for Edgar (42-6-0, 25 KO’s), before he fights Flyweight Champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (80-3-1, 44 KO’s) of Thailand.
Edgar who’s trained two months for Paz and has been sparring with WBA Light Flyweight Champion Roman Gonzalez from Nicaragua, is determined to stay focused on a fundamental step by step rather than a plodding approach. He explained: “Every opponent is potentially dangerous and I’m not taking Paz lightly. However, my experience will be an advantage, and I’ll be trying to achieve an early knockout.”
Edgar who was WBC Light Flyweight Champion until Filipino Rodel Mayol headbutted him into defeat with a triple cheekbone fracture on November 21st 2009, has had a long hard road back. He hopes it will culminate in a fight for the Flyweight title in the Fall of this year.
Edgar paid tribute to Wonjongkam calling him: “An extremely physically strong southpaw, and an experienced cagey veteran, who always comes very well prepared.” But he also stressed he wants the title fight: “To either be in Mexico or on neutral ground because he’s dirty, using his head a lot.”
Gala Boxing who’s putting on the San Luis Potosi show, has also got a strong card backing Edgar Sosa up.
Esmeralda Morena is defending her WBC Light Flyweight Silver WBC Championship Belt against Mary “The killer woman” Salinas from McAllen Texas. Giovanni “The Russian” Caro is defending his WBC International Super Bantamweight title against Simpiwe Vetyeka from South Africa. The two of them are respectively ranked one and two in this division. While Cristian Esquivel who’s ranked number two in the WBC Bantamweight division will fight Jovanny Soto.
