Former two-division champion Devon Alexander “The Great” (27-4) bounced back from a two year hiatus from the ring with a dominant points victory over Walter Castillo (26-5) on November 21st. The bout headlines a PBC on FS1 card and was Alexander’s first victory in nearly three and a half years.
The St. Louis, MO native’s hiatus was due to a battle against opioid addiction that clearly affected him in his back to back losses to Amir Khan and Aron Martinez.
He said that the difference was like night and day when he faced Castillo.
“Yes sir. I felt good and strong Ryan. I don’t care who I fight next. If I’m at 100% nobody can beat me. My skills are better than anybody at 147,” said Alexander.
Still only 30 years old, Alexander hopes to get right back in the ring. He wants to get back in the mix as soon as possible.
“As soon as the end of January or early February I want to fight. I didn’t suffer any injuries in the fight so I’m ready to go ASAP,” he explained.
Alexander also wanted to thank both his fans and his critics and let them know that it is only a matter of time before he regains his position as one of the top welterweights in the world.
“I want to thank all my fans who truly stuck by me while I was going through my ordeal. The fans who know what I’m capable of doing when I’m at my best. I thank you guys. And to all my haters, I’m back!” Alexander told BoxingScene.com.
Alexander is advised by powerful boxing broker Al Haymon - and that gives Alexander an army of options, because Haymon also works with WBC, WBA champion Keith Thurman, IBF champion Errol Spence, Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia, Brandon Rios, Luis Collazo, Jessie Vargas, and several other welterweights.
