Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya has warned that former two-division world champion Devon Alexander is coming to make a statement on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He faces former champion and British superstar Amir Khan in the main event of a Showtime televised tripleheader.
Alexander lost his IBF welterweight title and a close twelve round decision to Shawn Porter last December. A few months ago he returned to form with a dominating win over Jesus Soto Karass.
Both fighters have a lot at stake, with WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. potentially waiting in the wings for the winner.
“Alexander is a very tough opponent, and this will be a real test for Khan,” De La Hoya said. “He’s going to come out shining and he’s going to come out to make a statement, so it’s going to be a very good fight. Alexander is not pushover whatsoever. He’s in the same position. He knows this is an opportunity of a lifetime and so it should call for a very good fight. This is the perfect step up for Khan right now."
