Following a hectic summer period that saw Sheffield based promoter, Dave Coldwell, expand his talented stable, Friday night marks a new beginning for three young boxers as they make their long awaited debut under the Coldwell Boxing banner. With the main-event spotlight already set for Curtis Woodhouse’s English title clash with Dave Ryan, Coldwell is adamant that his next generation of prospects can prosper on the undercard.
“Friday night is the start of big season for Coldwell Boxing and we’re confident that we’ve got tomorrow’s champions,” beamed Coldwell. “We had a busy few months in the summer signing plenty of top names and three of those names are in action on Friday and I can’t wait to watch them in action. Maxi Hughes is a talented kid who’s made a good start to his professional career and we’ve also got Jamie Hughes and Rod Smith making their debuts tonight and I’m certain we can expect huge things from all three.”
Friday’s show at Rotherham’s Magna Centre is the start of a busy two weeks for Coldwell Boxing as they head to Manchester a fortnight later to deliver Matthew Hatton’s comeback fight against Michael Lomax. Despite spending the traditional relaxation months in the office making show preparations, Coldwell’s desire to add to his ranks has been highlighted with the signings of a number of outstanding boxers who he believes have vast potential. The aforementioned Maxi Hughes is a name he singles out for special praise.
“Maxi is a kid with huge balls and he’s going to be a real fan favourite because he’s a really entertaining fighter who also knows how to take care of himself. We’ve seen him fight and we’ve seen him spar plenty of rounds with Curtis [Woodhouse] so we know exactly what we’re getting with him. These are exciting times for Coldwell Boxing and we’re well aware of what our goals are, by signing the best young talent in the sport, we’re confident that it will help us fulfil our aim.”
