Cuxhaven, Germany - In a heavyweight match-up, Romanian Christian Hammer (17-3, 10 KOs) pounded out a workmanlike unanimous decision over plodding WBO #15 Brazilian Irineu Beato Costa Junior (15-1, 13 KOs), dealing him his first career loss.
Both fighters were very cautious and methodical but Hammer turned out to be a bit faster and much craftier fighter than the Brazilian, who chose to platy it safe on the defensive. Both fighters engaged into rare exchanges and WBO #9 Hammer was a batter fighter of them too besides being a better boxer. Costa Junior was also down momentarily in the twelfth round on what looked to be a slip rather than a knockdown. Final scores were: 120-108, 120-108, and 120-107 - all for the Romanian heavyweight.

In a six-round heavyweight contest Nikola Milacic (6-1, 3 KOs) easily outpointed career journeyman Jindrich Velicky (19-29, 18 KOs) from Czech Republik over six with identical scores: 60-54.

Former world title challenger Karo Murat came back a year after his valiant effort against then-unified light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (who was the IBF champion at the time) to stop Germany-based Cameroonian Leo Tchula (9-7, 8 KOs) in four.
Tchoula, who was previously scheduled to face Sven Fornling, came as a late replacement for Varol Vekiloglu, who was an original opponent for Murat. The 31-year favorite was expectedly cautious in the first but checked Tchoula's liver with a nice shot. Tchoula responded with a big right to even things up at the end of the round. Murat did better in the next couple of rounds, mixing stiff jabs with body shots to deal damage to his brave but incapable opponent. The end came in round for. Murat hurt Tchoula with a smashing right hand and continued pounding until referee Holger Wiemann had interrupted the carnage. Time was 1:49 of the stanza. Murat improves to a solid 26-2-1, with 16 KOs.

Fight veteran Danny Williams, once a heavyweight title challenger and Mike Tyson's conqueror - is now barely a journeyman if not a proverbial bum, continued his sad journey to an inevitable end (hopefully, a good end) with yet another stoppage loss. This time the British veteran got stopped in two rounds by hulking Swede Adrian Granat (6-0, 5 KOs). Williams was floored once in the first and once in the second before being stopped at 0:48 of the second. He is now 46-24, with 35 KOs, and is just 2-14 in his latest fights.
