As was the case earlier this year, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32KOs) and Top Rank are holding ground on certain aspects on a proposed deal to face WBA/IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch on January 24th.
Chavez owes one more fight to Top Rank, and once completed the Mexican star will become a free agent. When Top Rank tried to make a fight between Chavez and Gennady Golovkin, their talks hit a wall after Chavez rejected any deal which included a contract extension. Top Rank did counter with modified a offer for a single fight with no future options, but Chavez was unhappy with the money.
Now a similar issues, says Chavez, is taking place for the fight with Froch. Chavez's manager, Billy Keane, has indicated to his fighter that Top Rank is a offering a lucrative deal with a contract extension or a one fight deal for a much lower sum.
"My manager told me they want the extension and I just want a fight," Chavez said. "I'm ready to fight whenever they tell me. I hope everything will be resolved soon in order to get into the ring and fight."
