Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will return to the boxing ring after a three-year absence to fight former UFC product Darren Till July 20 on the undercard of the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul event at AT&T Stadium outside Dallas.
Two boxing officials connected to the deal told BoxingScene Wednesday that the bout will be fought at a 190-pound catch-weight limit and is scheduled for six three-minute rounds.
Chavez, 38, last fought in 2021, posting a unanimous-decision victory over David Zegarra in Mexico after losing a boxing match to former UFC champion Anderson Silva earlier that year.
The son of the legendary Mexican fighter, Chavez Jr. (53-6-1, 34 KOs) stood as WBC middleweight champion in 2011-2012, but proceeded on a steady decline.
He was shown on HBO cameras as inattentive in training before losing his belt to Sergio Martinez in 2012, was dominated by Canelo Alvarez in their 2017 meeting and then quit on his stool in a 2019 loss to former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs in 2019.
The Tyson-Paul card is aiming to stage six bouts on the Netflix-streamed show, and it was also announced that Paul-promoted lightweight Ashton Sylve (11-0, 9 KOs) will meet Floyd Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs).
