WBO junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not concerned with the recent training photos that were released by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
In those photos, Chavez Jr. displays a ripped body that is in top form - a far cry from his physical appearance in some of his past fights.
Canelo will move up to a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds to face Chavez Jr. in an HBO Pay-Per-View main event on May 6th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vgeas.
Canelo explains that he's faced stronger fighters, and bigger fighters, and always walked away with his hand raised.
He tells Eduard Cauich that a "good looking body means nothing inside the ring" - indicating that his victory will come down to skills and ring smarts.
"I'm glad that [Chávez] is taking the fight seriously, so there's no excuses on the day [of our fight] and the truth is, I want to bring a big fight to the people and I'm glad that he's taking it seriously. It means it will be a great fight," Canelo said.
Right now Chavez Jr. is a huge underdog with the oddsmakers. He's been as high as a 10-1 underdog and as low as a 5-1. Canelo is paying no attention to the odds and is not surprised by the numbers floating around. Some money has been coming in on Chavez Jr. after his recent training photos and the fact that he's working with Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain and conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia.
"It always happens like this in all fights. I have always been a wide favorite but when the fight is starting to get close, then those numbers begin to come down and reduce. It's normal, I do not care if I'm a favorite or not. I trained very hard and that's what gives me security," Canelo explained.
