Canelo Expects Danger, Won't Be Careless With Angulo

By Luis Sandoval

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is hard at work training for his fight against Alfredo “Perro” Angulo on March 8th where he will look to bounce back from his first professional loss to Floyd Mayweather this past September.

Alvarez is now training in San Diego, CA as he built a gym in the comfort of his home and left his former training sites of Los Angeles and Big Bear behind. For the 23 year old former champion, there’s nothing better than being in his own ambience as he cites that as one of the main reasons for the move.

While his training site may have changed, his desire to win has remained the same as he hopes to get back in the mix by beating a hardnosed fighter in Angulo. The fight has been billed “Toe to Toe” and while Angulo has promised to do his part to live up to the name, Canelo was asked how he would approach the fight.

“I’m going to look for whatever is convenient for me to win. I’m going to look for what’s convenient for me to win the fight from the first round. And obviously that’s my main line of thinking, to go out there and win” said Canelo.

Alvarez admitted during the press tour that part of the reason he picked Angulo was that he always came forward looking for a fight and that’s exactly what he wants to give the fans. Some think Alvarez’s decision to fight Angulo is based on the fact that he’s a beatable opponent but Alvarez explains Angulo is anything but an easy out.

“He’s a very tough fighter. It’s a dangerous fight because he’s a fighter that hits and can take punches and last. He always comes forward. There are difficult fights but this is a tough fight because he’s a tough hard fighter who likes to come forward” Alvarez would tell BoxingScene.

BoxingScene was allowed to attend a private training session for Alvarez where he worked with brother Ricardo Alvarez and also put his hand speed and power on display during some intense rounds of mitt work with head trainer Eddy Reynoso.

Alvarez assures he feels strong and is ready and while “Perro” is ready to bite, he’s also anxious to get in the ring and deliver some punishment.
