2012 Olympic Gold medallist Luke Campbell 6-0 (4 KOs) looks set to fight Daniel Brizuela 26-3 (8 KOs) on October 25 at Hull Arena.
The fight will see Brizuela, a 2004 Olympian, return to the same city that gave boxing fans a fight of the year contender when the Argentinian lost by TKO in the twelfth and final round of his lightweight contest against Tommy Coyle 19-2 (8 KOs) back in February.
In a fight that had everything, each man visited the canvas four times. Brizuela was cut and had a point deducted for a low blow in the ninth whilst Coyle was deducted two points for a low blow and for punching on the break in the eighth and eleventh respectively. In the end, many felt the fight was stopped prematurely in final round by referee Steve Gray.
For Campbell, who returned to the ring for the first time in five months back in July with a points win over Craig Woodruff, a fight against Brizuela represents a big step up in class for what will be only his seventh contest. But due to his advanced years (26), amateur pedigree and his performances to date as a professional he is being progressed at an accelerated rate.
Coyle will co-headline the bill, against a yet to be named opponent, adding to a rivalry that is sure to build over the coming months.
Campbell will be looking to defeat Brizuela more convincingly than his city rival, Coyle who are both both promoted by Matchroom Boxing, ahead of a proposed showdown between the pair at an open-air venue next summer with local bragging rights at stake.
