Former champion Brandon Rios, and his trainer Robert Garcia, tell BoxingScene.com that undefeated Chris Algieri is more than capable of outboxing WBO 140-pound titleholder Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16KOs) on June 14th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Algieri's challenge of Provodnikov will be televised in a main event position on HBO.
Garcia stated - "don't be surprised [if he wins], he trained with us for three fights [in Oxnard, California."
Rios, who tried his best to get a fight with Provodnikov, says Algieri's superior boxing ability will outweigh his lack of punching power.
"Look at what happened with Mauricio [Herrera when he faced Danny Garcia]. Mauricio is not a puncher and I think he won that fight. [Algieri] doesn't have a lot of power but he boxes very well. He is a skillful boxer. Don't be surprised if Algieri ouboxes him," Rios told BoxingScene.com.
