BoxingScene.com recently caught up with lightweight contender Mickey Bey who trains out of the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bey last fought in July when he was comfortably ahead of John Molina Jr. entering the 10th and final round of their Showtime televised bout. As the crowd cheered on, Bey began to apply pressure and early in the round appeared to be on the brink of stopping Molina who was able to recover.
With about a minute or so left in the round, Molina unloaded a heavy shot that had Bey badly hurt. Bey never went down but the ref felt that Bey could no longer defend himself and stopped the fight.
It was a remarkable turn of events considering that Bey had won almost all of the first 9 rounds. Bey said that he will bounce back even stronger than he was before.
"It was easy work but I am so much of an animal anything can happen. Like I said, that just made it worse for the future. I'm a beast seven days a week, 365, 24/7," stated Bey.
The Ohio native who is now based out of Las Vegas felt that the fight was stopped too early and that he could have continued. We pointed out other fights in which a fighter was badly hurt but was allowed to continue.
"We've seen fights where dudes have got knocked down and they've been allowed to go on. There's been fights like Tim Bradley and (Ruslan) Provodnikov, the Russian cat, who's a strong guy. That (fight) probably could have been stopped 30 times yet mine got stopped. I'm an animal though and it is what is. I'm ready to get back at it," Bey stated.
Bey said he is likely to return in November and would like a rematch with Molina. If that happen there are plenty of other options available to him.
"I give him his props. Of course he (Molina) said he wants to go in a different direction. We are working on something right now. It could be a rematch or it could be something else," Mickey Bey told BoxingScene.com.
