Former world champion Andre Berto has deep roots in boxing and mixed martial arts.
Berto, a former two-time welterweight world champion, has a brother and sister who are MMA fighters and his father competed at UFC 10.
He is also the last boxer to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. - who retired after defeating Berto in September 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
On August 26th, boxing and mixed martial arts will come together at the T-Mobile Arena - when Mayweather comes out of retirement to face the biggest star in MMA, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
Berto, who shares the same manager as Mayweather in Al Haymon, is also very good friends with McGregor and several other MMA fighters.
McGregor has no professional boxing experience and because of that he's easily been tabbed as a massive underdog - stepping in the ring with the man regarded as one of the best defensive boxers in history.
Berto would not rule out the possibility of a McGregor upset.
“I see Conor coming in there really showing that bravado, showing that cockiness and showing that he’s really there to fight,” Berto said, explaining one possibility, to MMA Fighting.
“And somewhat trying to steal the stage from Floyd just with his antics and he kind of gets Floyd into a mind-game situation, has him pulling some type of mistakes and [Mayweather] gets caught with a big shot and gets hurt. And [McGregor] could stop him."
“Or I see Floyd not playing into any of these antics and being who he is, to stay poised and to stay sharp and let his boxing skills just pick Conor apart. And either late rounds stop Conor just from the accumulation of shots or maybe cuts or just being beat up, or just outboxing him for 12 rounds and just trying to make him look silly. It’s the fight game — anything can happen. It’s either Conor catches him early, finishes him or Floyd is gonna outboxing him and makes him look silly and tries to embarrass him.”
