In a recent sparring session at the gym of his trainer Erik Morales, Jorge ¨Maromerito" Paez injured his right hand and was forced to withdraw from the upcoming fight with Ramon Alvarez, who is the older brother of Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
Replacing Paez is a blast from the past, Ben "Wonder" Tackie has stepped in to challenge Alvarez on October 10 at the Mexico City Arena.
Alvarez (39-5-2, 23 KOs) vs. Tackie (30-12-1, 18 KOs) will be the main event of a Box Azteca card, at junior middleweight, with WBC International belt at stake.
Tackie was once a top contender at junior welterweight with an iron solid chin. He faced an army of top names during the course of his career. But once he moved up to welterweight, he lost five in a row and seemed to be retired in 2008.
He then came back for a fight and suffered defeat once again in 2010 and again seemed to be retired, but then he reappeared in Ghana in March of 2014 and picked up a fourth round KO win.
Tackie, 42-years-old, has never been stopped but he's seen much better days.
