According to the World Boxing Organization, they were advised that WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (41-4, 28KOs) is potentially going to face British contender Paul Smith (35-4, 20KOs) in rematch on a February date. The WBO revealed the information during their ongoing convention in Las Vegas.
Abraham won a twelve round unanimous decision over Smith last month. Very few questioned the actual outcome but the fight was much closer than the official scorecards would indicate.
Most observers had Abraham winning by a point or two and some had it a draw, but the official judges had it wide for the champion - 117-111, 117-111 and a ridiculous card of 119-109.
Smith's handlers protested the outcome, but the WBO rejected their request for an immediate rematch.
It appears now the two promoters, Sauerland Event and Eddie Hearn, are working out the rematch details among themselves.
