Both are experienced fighters. Both are former world junior flyweight champions. Both have talent and can box. Both want to be world champions in two divisions. But both are seek that opportunity at the expense of the other.
Ulises "Archie" Solis (35-2-3, 22 KOs) and Edgar Sosa (47-7-0, 28 KOs) will meet on March 9th for the WBC silver flyweight world title, which is also a final elimination bout promoted by Zanfer, sponsored by Tecate and will be transmitted on Azteca 7, "La Casa del Boxeo". The venue of the fight is stll to be defined.
"It will be a tough fight, against a great fighter like Sosa who was a great world champion, but this is a great opportunity, and in the event of defeating him I would be in the waiting room to go for the WBC flyweight world championship and I have no doubt I will win," said Solis. "I already confronted him and beat him twice when we were rookies and they were real wars. Then we had good development and we continued our ways. Both of us have achieved great things in boxing and now in the maturity of our careers fate has put us back together in the ring, and I'm sure that I can win again."
In May 2001, Solis took the undefeated record of Sosa (who was 5-0) when he beat him by split decision. In September 2003, they faced off again and Ulises won again, this time by majority decision when he retained the national junior flyweight championship. Both battles were in Mexico City.
"I have the hunger to be champion again, I lost my world championship by a forced inactivity (due to injury) and I'll prove to the people and to myself that I'm still a champion and now I have the opportunity to be a world champion in two divisions," said Solis.
