Former world champion Anthony Mundine underwent hip surgery in England in an effort to save his boxing career.
Mundine still hopes for another rematch with Danny Green upon his return to Australia, after he spends five days in hospital recuperating from the operation.
The 40-year-old says he has been fighting on one leg for more than five years, and has therefore chosen renowned hip surgeon Derek McMinn for the procedure.
It won't come cheap though - the surgery alone is $30,000 while he'll also have to shelve out around $10,000 on airfares and accommodation.
But Mundine believes it will be worthwhile as it will bring him back to somewhere near his best.
"When it's all fixed and I've got full use of my body back, Danny Green will be taking out an AVO on me," he told News Corp Australia."He won't know what's hit him."
Mundine (47-7, 27KOs) has been out of the ring since getting dominated and knocked out by Charles Hatley in the eleventh round last November. It was his first bout in a year since stunning unbeaten Sergey Rabchenko for the WBC silver junior middleweight world title. Prior to that bout, he was was dominated over twelve rounds by former world champion Joshua Clottey.
A fight against Green will still be a mystery. Green fights as cruiserweight, weighing in at 187 pounds for his last bout while Mundine last fought at 153-pounds. Green broke away from his retirement last August with a ten round unanimous decision over Roberto Bolonti.
Since their bout in 2006, which Mundine won by decision at super middleweight, the two boxers have argued over money and specifically the contracted weight for a rematch.
