It wouldn’t be a week in boxing if Al Haymon didn’t add another fighter to his vast stable. The latest signing for the high-powered adviser is light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara, Boxingscene.com learned Thursday afternoon.
The signing of Fonfara begins the foundation for Haymon to begin staging a series of light heavyweight bouts, which will benefit current lineal champion Adonis Stevenson, who is currently without a dance partner for a forthcoming title defense in the 4th quarter of 2014.
Fonfara (25-3, 15KOs) was last seen coming up short in a valiant effort versus Stevenson in their light heavyweight championship this past May in Montreal. Both fighters hit the canvas in a fight in which Stevenson escaped with a 12-round points win.
The bout marked Fonfara’s first title fight and his first bout on Showtime. The Polish boxer—who now lives in and fights out of Chicago, IL—earned the title fight with a come-from-behind 9th round knockout of former light heavyweight titlist Gabriel Campillo last August, part of a 16-fight win streak before coming up short versus Stevenson.
No date has yet been announced for Fonfara’s next bout.
Haymon's stable continues to grow at rapid rate. He currently works with a who's who of boxing, including Stevenson, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Adrien Broner, Amir Khan, Robert Guerrero, Shawn Porter, Deontay Wilder, Abner Mares, Keith Thurman, Sakio Bika, Leo Santa Cruz, Omar Figueroa, Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout, Devon Alexander, Errol Spence, Gerald Washington, and at least 30 other fighters.
