WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward had seven stitches removed from above his right eye today, reporting the following via Twitter:
“Got the stitches out. Cut looks good, and is healing fine. The work never stops. December 17th...it's go time!!
Eight days ago, Ward sustained the injury during a sparring session with Brandon Gonzales, resulting in a postponement of his Super Six final with WBC champ Carl Froch on Oct. 29.
He subsequently flew down from Oakland to Los Angeles to meet with plastic surgeon and ringside physician Dr. Paul Wallace, who is known for his work sewing up the cut Vitali Klitschko incurred during his fight with then-heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in 2003.
Ward’s fight with Froch has since been rescheduled for Dec. 17 at the same venue of Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.
