Amir Khan admits that everything in his career is at stake next month when he battles Devon Alexander on December 13th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will headline a Showtime televised tripleheader.
Former champions “King” Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) and Alexander “The Great” (26-2, 14 KOs) are both hoping to get a shot at WBA/WBC welterweight king Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) in May of next year.
Khan realizes that a loss against Alexander will cause a significant negative ripple in his career. He would lose out on Mayweather, likely for good as the undefeated boxer plans to retire next year. Khan's status as one of the elite fighters out there would diminish as well.
“I look at this as a make or break fight for me. I am focused 100 percent on this fight. [Floyd] Mayweather is motivation for me, makes me work harder, but my main goal is to get past this fight. If I win this fight it will take me onto bigger and better things. This is a statement fight for me and if I beat [Devon] Alexander, then I believe I have secured my position in a super fight, but it’s all about winning this fight and looking good," Khan said.
