Junior welterweight contender Amir "The Young Master" Imam (18-0, 15KOs) is possibly one fight away from a world title opportunity.
The World Boxing Council has already ordered newly crowned WBC champion Viktor "The Iceman" Postol (28-0, 12KOs) to make a mandatory defense against Imam.
Postol created shockwaves earlier this month when he knocked out heavily favored Lucas Matthysse to capture the vacant WBC title.
According to Imam's trainer, Stacey McKinley, the 24-year-old boxer will return in a stay-busy fight on November 28th as part of the James DeGale-Lucien Bute undercard in Quebec. The card is televised by Showtime.
If all goes well next month, the next move for Imam is to push for the mandatory against Postol. Imam is promoted by Hall of Famer Don King.
"He's scheduled to fight on the 28th of November. I think it's going to be in Quebec. The opponent is still to be announced. This is like a tuneup fight, but we're taking it very seriously. And after that the WBC has mandated that Viktor Postol, the newly crowned WBC champion, will defend his title against Amir Iman in early next year," McKinley told BoxingScene.com.
"We're taking this fight [in November] seriously because if anything goes wrong, then it gets us out of the championship fight. This is basically a tuneup fight, but we trained hard, we're ready to go and then we'll wait for the championship fight."
