Former IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (26-2, 14KOs) sees himself as presented a much tougher challenge for Amir Khan (29-3, 19KOs) than his countryman Kell Brook.
Alexander was upset last December by Shawn Porter, who then lost the IBF title to Brook in August. Alexander was originally scheduled to face Khan last year. Khan withdrew to hold out for a possible crack at Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Next Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Alexander will face Khan in the main event of a Showtime televised tripleheader.
After Brook captured the IBF crown, there was talk of a domestic blockbuster with Khan, but Alexander sees himself as the much tougher challenge.
"It’s an opportunity I have been waiting so long for. There are bound to be fireworks I am ready for the fight now. I was frustrated when it didn’t happen last December but it is no big deal and I quickly moved on when it didn’t. I have only got better a year on and am in the prime of my career," Alexander told Bolton News.
"I am way better than Brook; I’m more dangerous for Khan. He knows I will be tougher. Brook still has to prove himself in my opinion. Khan’s Collazo win was not a surprise to me because Collazo is past his time. In my opinion, speed kills and Amir Khan did what he had to do. I see a true determination in Amir Khan. But if I prepare right, both mentally and physically, there should not be any pressure on me."
