The heavyweight division was put into a state of flux when WBO/WBA/IBO champion Tyson Fury relinquished his titles after testing positive for cocaine.
With the belts suddenly vacant, a series of fights have been discussed to crown new champions. One such bout is a clash between WBO #1 rated contender Joseph Parker (21-0) and #3 rated contender Andy Ruiz (29-0).
Parker's promoter Duco Events had originally proposed December 10th at a venue in Parker's homeland of New Zealand. Ruiz's promoter Top Rank asked for a later date so that Ruiz would have more time with his new trainer Abel Sanchez who was also trains middleweight kingpin Gennasy Golovkin who was scheduled to return to the ring on the same date in New York.
Now that Golovkin's fight has been pushed back to early 2017, Sanchez has less of a logjam in December but will always have a busy schedule with the size of his stable.
"There are always scheduling conflicts at this level but unfortunately for Golovkin and fortunately for Ruiz, Jacobs wasn't as willing to fight (on December 10th) so they changed it but I have another kid fighting in Moscow on the 3rd. I have Murat Gassiev fighting Denis Lebedev for the WBA and IBF takes so we are going to have a busy month but we always get the work done," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com.
