Arthur Abraham Returns, Stops Bozic in Two After Injury

By Alexey Sukachev

Mulheim, Germany - It probably couldn't have been any faster than that. Comebacking former middleweight king and Showtime Super Six contestant Arthur Abraham (now 32-2, 26 KOs) needed less than two rounds to be crowned a winner in a tune-up fight against former world title challenger Stjepan Bozic (24-5, 15 KOs).

After a pretty heated first round, which saw several successful attacks by both fighters, the fight ended in a horrible disaster early into the second stanza, when WBA #8 super middleweight Bozic seemingly broke and fractured his left hand while throwing a hook to the ribs of Abraham which was blocked by Arthur's right elbow. Time was 1:01 when referee Daniel Van De Viele waved the fight off as the Croatian fighter was in no condition to continue.

Meanwhile, WBO #2, WBC #3, WBA #5 and The Ring #10 contender didn't look particularly well in the opening stanza, eating some well-placed uppercuts and power punches of his former sparring partner and landing little blows of his own. The perception was that the upgraded version of Arthur Abraham wasn't any better than his previous version which was handled a one-sided drubbing off the hands of Carl Froch in his last outing. Time will tell if this perception is just a mirage of this reporter or the correct point of view.

SO we learned that AA got lucky with his elbows but nothing much has changed. He will still clam up into his defensive shell against a better fighter and then panic around R10 swinging haymakers looking for a KO. Same/same.
