Art Hovhannesyan Demolishes Archie Ray Marquez in Six

By Chris LaBate

Chumash Casino, Santa Ynez, California - Art Hovhannesyan (14-0-1, 8KOs) knocked out previously undefeated Archie Ray Marquez (12-1, 8KOs) in the sixth round of a lightweight battle. Marquez went down four times in the bout.

Hovhannesyan came out strong in round one, throwing hard shots and knocked Marquez down in the closing seconds. Hovhannesyan attacked him with power shots with both hands, and Marquez responded by standing toe to toe and going to war. In the third round, Hovhannesyan dropped Marquez for a second time.

In the fourth, Marquez started to work his way back with a few hard combinations. In the fifth, Hovhannesyan came back strong when he landed a huge right hand to send Marquez down for the third time in the fight. Marquez survived and they started trading big punches. Then in the sixth, a counter left hand sent Marquez crashing down on the his back and the ref stopped the contest.

Welterweight contender Rashad Holloway (13-2-2, 5 KO’s) won an eight round unanimous decision over Jhon Berrio (15-10, 11 KO’s). The scores were 79-72, 79-72, and 78-73. Holloway decked Berrio in the seventh round but couldn't finish him off.
