Super featherweight contender Argenis Mendez (20-2, 10KOs) is very upset after learning that IBF champion Juan Carlos Salgado is looking to bypass their rematch for a voluntary defense against unbeaten Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa on the reported date of November 17th.
Mendez defeats Martin Honorio last month in a final IBF eliminator. Salgado (26-1-1, 16KOs) won the title with a razor thin decision over Mendez last September in Mexico. Mendez feels Salgado is doing everything possible to avoid their rematch.
"Salgado is afraid to fight me again. I'm sure of that because my last fight against Martin Honorio convinced him that he can not defeat me. What I feel Salgado is doing is trying to avoid the commitment of his upcoming mandatory fight," Mendez said.
