Reports are surfacing overseas that Argenis Mendez (18-1, 9KOs) will fight for the vacant IBF super featherweight title on July 23 against former champion Juan Carlos Salgado (23-1-1, 16KOs) of Mexico. The title became vacant after Mzonke Fana was stripped for failing to make his mandatory defense against Mendez. The information is a bit odd because Salagdo is scheduled to fight on the same date in Mexico against former champion Jorge Solis.
"He is young and has quality like me. It will be a great fight. I hope he's well prepared. We're just waiting to finalize the location for the fight," said Mendez.
