Longtime fight manager Rolando Arellano is expecting really big things from his fighter Pablo Cesar Cano of Mexico. Just 22, Cano is 25-1-1 with 19 knockouts. He will be moving up in weight to challenge Paulie Malignaggi for his welterweight world title on Golden Boy's Oct. 20 card at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
In his most recent fight in July, Cano won a seventh-round technical decision over Johan Perez to win an interim junior welterweight belt.
"I think this is the next star from Mexico," Arellano said.
(Door closed on Ortiz)
Arellano is the former manager of the aforementioned Ortiz. The two, who parted ways after Ortiz's loss to Lopez, recently came to a settlement over a money dispute (as was reported on RingTV.com). Arellano intimated to BoxingScene.com he is taking the split in stride.
"It's the business we're in," he said. "When you dance with the devil and get burned, you can't bitch about it."
